What it does

Court size follows the level. Youth courts shrink for small legs, high school stretches to 84 ft, and the pro game runs 94 by 50.

The tool above reads the level table. High school gives 84 by 50 ft, or 25.6 by 15.2 m, for 4,200 ft2. Pro adds ten feet of length for 4,700 ft2.

Length matters more than width for driveways. A half high court at 42 by 50 still fits a free throw and a wing three, while a short youth cut fits passing and layups.

Runoff room guards drives. Five to ten feet past sidelines and baselines lets players slow down, while walls on the line turn hustle into bruises.

Paint follows the tape. Square the corners, check diagonals match, then stripe key and arc per the level book.

How to use

  1. Pick level: youth, high, or pro.
  2. Read feet dimensions first.
  3. Read meters next.
  4. Read area.
  5. Add runoff room around the lines.
  6. Paint half courts at half length.

Formula

Area = length x width. Meters = feet x 0.3048.
level
Play level setting court size.

Levels are youth 74 by 42, high 84 by 50, and pro 94 by 50. Half courts halve the length for driveways.

Worked example

Example: high school court

Default level: high school. The page opens on this answer.

  1. Level: high school.
  2. Court: 84 by 50 ft.
  3. Metric: 84 x 0.3048 = 25.6 m by 50 x 0.3048 = 15.2 m.
  4. Area: 84 x 50 = 4,200 ft2.
  5. Tool shows 84 ft by 50 ft, 25.6 m by 15.2 m, 4,200 ft2.

Limits

  • Dimensions only. Lines and hoops need rulebooks.
  • Backyard slopes break bounce and drainage.
  • Lighting and fencing need separate plans.
  • School specs may vary by state.

Common mistakes

  • Painting pro length on a short lot.
  • Skipping runoff room at baselines.
  • Taping lines out of square.
  • Setting portable hoops on slopes.
  • Sealing fresh asphalt too soon.

Quick checks. Answers sit tucked under each question.

Youth court?

74 by 42 ft. Meters are 74 x 0.3048 = 22.6 m by 42 x 0.3048 = 12.8 m. Area is 74 x 42 = 3,108 ft2.

Pro court?

94 by 50 ft. Area is 94 x 50 = 4,700 ft2.

Questions

How big is a high school court?

High school is 84 by 50 ft, or 25.6 by 15.2 m, for 4,200 ft2.

Youth versus pro?

Youth 74 by 42, high 84 by 50, pro 94 by 50. Driveways often paint half courts instead.

Feet to meters?

Multiply feet by 0.3048. Here 84 x 0.3048 = 25.6 m.

Runoff room?

Add 5 to 10 ft clear past lines where space allows. Walls tight to sidelines injure drivers.

Backboard size?

Sixty inches is the common pro backboard width. Youth sets run smaller.

Hoop height included?

No. Hoop height and pad specs need the level rulebook.
