Quail Feed Calculator
Quail covey feed by day and month plus bag count.
What it does
Quail eat little each and steadily as a covey. Twenty birds clear half a kilo a day, which still stacks to fifteen kilos a month.
The tool above multiplies birds by 25 grams by days. Twenty quail need 500 g a day, or 15 kg over a month in 6.6 bags. Imperial keepers get 1.1 lb a day toward 33 lb.
Ration fits age. Chicks need fine high protein crumble, layers need calcium for daily eggs, and all ages need grit plus water.
Waste decides real use. Low troughs with lips and measured fills cut the billed share that bedding swallows.
Sealed storage closes the plan. Small bags stay fresh for coveys, with treats kept to a tenth of the day.
How to use
- Pick imperial (lb) or metric (g, kg).
- Enter quail count: 20 suits a backyard covey.
- Enter days: 30 suits monthly buys.
- Read daily first, then monthly.
- Read bags and keep feed sealed.
- Offer grit and water beside.
Formula
- quail
- Bird count.
- days
- Days to cover.
Imperial runs 0.055 lb per bird daily with 5 lb bags. Both modes share one bag count from the same monthly pounds.
Worked example
Example: 20 quail, 30 days
Imperial defaults: 20 quail for 30 days. These are also the default values, so the page opens on this answer.
- Covey: 20 quail.
- Rate: 0.055 lb per bird per day.
- Daily: 20 x 0.055 = 1.1 lb.
- Month: 1.1 x 30 = 33 lb over 30 days.
- Bags: 33 / 5 = 6.6 bags.
- Tool shows 1.1 lb per day, 33 lb, 6.6 bags (5 lb).

Questions
Feed for a month?
Multiply birds by 25 g by days. Here 20 x 25 x 30 / 1000 = 15 kg.
How much per quail?
Near 25 g (0.055 lb) per adult daily of game bird ration. Chicks need fine crumble.
How many bags?
Divide monthly pounds by 5. Here 33 / 5 = 6.6 bags.
Starter or layer?
Game bird starter near 24 to 28 % protein for chicks, layer near 18 to 20 % with calcium for hens.
Do treats change it?
Yes. Greens and mealworms trim the bill as treats, not base.
Does this treat illness?
No. Egg slumps and illness need review.
