What it does

Meatloaf timing tracks weight more than recipe. The same pan at the same heat finishes by pounds, with filling and depth adding the swing.

The tool above multiplies weight by rate and adds rest. A 2 lb loaf at 35 min per lb bakes 1 h 10 min plus 10 min rest, or 1 h 20 min to the board. The metric match is 0.9 kg at 77 per kg for 1 h 09 min.

Rate fits 350 F. Near 35 min per lb suits a standard loaf pan, while deep dishes, heavy veg, and cold starts run longer. Free form flats run shorter.

Temp sets safety. Ground meat needs 160 F in the center, read on a probe away from the pan wall. Color and juices hint, but only temp clears.

Rest firms the slice. Ten minutes tented lets juices settle so squares lift clean instead of crumbling.

How to use

  1. Pick imperial (lb) or metric (kg).
  2. Enter loaf weight as mixed.
  3. Enter rate: 35 per lb or 77 per kg.
  4. Read bake time first.
  5. Read total with 10 min rest.
  6. Probe the center to 160 F.

Formula

Bake min = weight x rate. Total = bake + 10 min rest. Target 160 F.
weight
Mixed loaf weight.
rate
Min per lb or per kg at 350 F.

Rate is min per lb imperial and min per kg metric. Pan depth, veg mix, and oven gaps shift real bakes, so the thermometer rules.

Worked example

Example: 2 lb at 35 min per lb

Imperial defaults: 2 lb at 35 min per lb. These are also the default values, so the page opens on this answer.

  1. Loaf: 2 lb.
  2. Rate: 35 min per lb at 350 F.
  3. Bake: 2 x 35 = 70 min.
  4. 70 min is 1 h 10 min.
  5. Rest: 10 min, so total is 1 h 20 min.
  6. Target: 160 F (71 C).
  7. Tool shows 1 h 10 min, 1 h 20 min, 160 F (71 C).

Limits

  • Time guide only. Thermometer rules safety.
  • Deep pans and veg loads run longer.
  • Oven gaps shift bakes by minutes.
  • Glazes need full bake too.

Common mistakes

  • Slicing hot with no rest.
  • Trusting color over temp.
  • Packing a deep pan on a flat clock.
  • Opening the door every ten minutes.
  • Cooling leftovers slowly.

Quick checks. Answers sit tucked under each question.

3 lb at 35 min per lb?

3 x 35 = 105 min, or 1 h 45 min. With 10 min rest the total is 1 h 55 min.

1.5 kg at 77 min per kg?

1.5 x 77 = 115.5 min, or 1 h 56 min after rounding. With rest the total is 2 h 06 min.

Questions

How long for 2 lb?

Multiply pounds by min per pound, then add 10 min rest. A 2 lb loaf at 35 needs 70 min plus rest.

Minutes per pound?

Near 35 min per lb at 350 F for a standard 4 by 8 pan. Deep pans and added veg run longer.

What temp is done?

Cook to 160 F in the center. Juices run clear at temp, pink needs more time.

Rest time?

Rest 10 min tented. Slices hold shape and juices settle instead of flooding the board.

Tent with foil?

Yes. Tent with foil when the top browns early, then uncover to finish.

Does glaze change it?

No. Glazes with raw egg need full bake too.
