What it does

Baked potatoes time by size, not by count. Ten mediums take the same hour as two, with weight and butter scaling instead.

The tool above times the batch. Ten medium russets bake 60 min at 425 F weighing 5 lb with 10 tbsp of butter. The metric match is 2.3 kg with 142 g.

Sizes set both lines. Smalls near 5 oz bake 45 min, mediums near 8 oz bake an hour, and larges near 12 oz need 75 min.

Butter runs a tablespoon each. Sour cream, cheese, and chives split toppings trays beside.

Pricked skins bake safely. Steam escapes instead of bursting, with foil only for holding after.

How to use

  1. Pick imperial (lb) or metric (kg, g).
  2. Enter potato count.
  3. Pick size: medium suits buffets.
  4. Read time first.
  5. Read weight next.
  6. Read butter and prick skins.

Formula

Time by size (45, 60, 75 min). Weight lb = count x size oz / 16. Butter tbsp = count.
count
Potato count.
size
Small, medium, or large russets.

Sizes run small 5 oz, medium 8 oz, large 12 oz. Metric runs kilos and grams with matching times.

Limits

  • Time guide only. Ovens vary.
  • Crowded racks need extra minutes.
  • Toppings need own counts.
  • Holding dries skins fast.

Common mistakes

  • Same time for smalls and larges.
  • No pricks, then bursts.
  • Foil during baking, steaming skins.
  • Cold toppings on bare tables.
  • Microwaving crowds unevenly.

Try it yourself

Quick checks. Answers sit tucked under each question.

6 small potatoes?
