Stableford Points Calculator
Turn golf scores by type into Stableford points with holes and target gap.
What it does
Stableford turns blow ups into zeros so one bad hole cannot sink a card. Five bogeys with 8 pars, 4 birdies, and an eagle total 37 points, one past the 36 point target for 18 holes.
The tool above takes holes by score type. It returns total points, holes scored, and the gap to 36, so casual rounds and club events share one leaderboard.
This math fits classic scoring without handicap strokes. It does not fit Modified Stableford tours with custom values, handicap pops that lift net scores, or team formats.
Golf rules frame the same family: Rule 21 covers Stableford alongside other stroke forms where points replace totals. Handicapping systems then convert these rounds for indexes separately.
Score each hole as you finish it. Rebuilding Stableford from a stroke total later invites exactly the errors the system avoids.
How to use
- Count bogeys worth 1 point each.
- Count pars worth 2 each.
- Count birdies at 3 and eagles at 4.
- Read total points first for standings.
- Read holes to confirm the round length.
- Read against 36 to see target gap.
Formula
- bogeys
- Holes at one over, 1 point.
- pars
- Holes at even, 2 points.
- birdies/eagles
- Holes under par at 3 and 4 points.
Holes must total between 1 and 36. Double bogeys and worse score zero here. Modified tour values need their own page.
Worked example
Example: 5 bogeys, 8 pars, 4 birdies, 1 eagle
Bogeys 5, pars 8, birdies 4, eagles 1.
- Bogeys: 5 x 1 = 5 pts.
- Pars: 8 x 2 = 16, running 21.
- Birdies: 4 x 3 = 12, running 33.
- Eagles: 1 x 4 = 4, total 37 pts.
- Tool shows 37 pts over 18 holes, +1 vs 36.
Reference table
| Mix | Points | Gap |

| 18 pars | 36 pts | +0 vs 36 |
Limits
- Classic values only. Modified tour tables differ.
- No handicap strokes applied here.
- Albatrosses group with eagles at 4 in this model.
- Team and aggregate formats need their own pages.
Common mistakes
- Scoring double bogeys as negative points.
- Valuing birdies at 2 like pars.
- Forgetting eagles outrank birdies at 4.
- Comparing 9 hole totals against the 36 target.
- Rebuilding points from stroke totals later.

Questions
How does Stableford scoring work?
Bogeys 1, pars 2, birdies 3, eagles 4. Bad holes score zero instead of going negative.
What is a good Stableford score?
36 points matches par pace over 18. Above 36 beats the target.
Why do high handicappers like Stableford?
Blow ups cost zero extra, so one disaster hole cannot ruin the card.
What about handicap strokes?
Applied separately per hole before points. This page scores gross results.
Does this fit 9 holes?
Yes for points, but compare against 18 prorated, not the full 36.
How is this different from stroke play?
Stroke totals every shot. Stableford caps damage at zero per hole.
