Reading Challenge Calculator
Turn a book goal, weeks, and page size into weekly books and pages.
What it does
Reading goals fail without a weekly pace. Twenty four books in 12 weeks need 2 a week, which at 300 pages each is 600 pages weekly or about 86 daily.
The tool above takes book goal, weeks, and average pages. It returns books per week, total pages, and pages per week, so summer lists and yearly challenges share one plan.
This math fits even book sizes with steady pace. It does not fit mixed picture books and novels, rereads that run faster, or school weeks with uneven free time.
Study guidance frames the same habit: short active sessions spread across days beat cramming, with reading pace estimated separately from challenge totals here.
Pick books before pace. A set average of 300 pages keeps weekly math honest across thick and thin titles.
How to use
- Enter book goal count.
- Enter weeks available.
- Enter average pages per book.
- Read books per week first for the shelf pace.
- Read total pages for the full climb.
- Read pages per week for the daily habit.
Formula
- books
- Books to finish in the challenge.
- weeks
- Weeks available for reading.
- pages
- Average pages in one book.
Fractions of books per week are fine as pace lines. Zero weeks is rejected. Picture books and novels need grouped runs per size.
Worked example
Example: 24 books in 12 weeks at 300 pages
Books goal 24, weeks 12, avg pages 300.
- Per week: 24 / 12 = 2 books/wk.
- Total: 24 x 300 = 7,200 pages.
- Weekly pages: 7200 / 12 = 600 pages/wk.
- Tool shows 2 books/wk, 7,200 pages, 600 pages/wk.
- Daily: 600 / 7 is about 86 pages a day.
Reference table
| Weeks | Books per week | Pages per week |
|---|---|---|
| 8 | 3 books/wk | 900 pages/wk |
| 12 | 2 books/wk | 600 pages/wk |
| 24 | 1 books/wk | 300 pages/wk |
Limits
- Even sizes only. Mixed picture books need split runs.
- Ignores reread speed and difficulty gaps.
- Ignores school weeks with uneven free time.
- Page counts vary by edition and font.
Common mistakes
- Setting book goals without week counts.
- Averaging thick novels with thin early readers.
- Reading weekly books as daily musts.
- Skipping catch up weeks after travel.
- Counting started books as finished books.

Questions
How many books a week must I read?
Goal divided by weeks. 24 in 12 needs 2 a week.
How many pages is my challenge?
Books times average pages. 24 at 300 is 7,200 pages.
What is a sustainable daily pace?
Weekly pages over 7. 600 a week is about 86 a day.
What if books vary in size?
Use a honest average or split thick and thin titles into runs.
Should rereads count?
Count them only if the challenge rules allow. They read faster.
How do I catch up after a miss?
Rerun with fewer weeks left. Weekly pace rises to absorb the gap.
