What it does

Pigs convert feed fast and waste what spills. A small grower group clears near five hundred pounds a month, so bin math matters.

The tool above multiplies head by rate by days. Four growers at 4 lb each need 16 lb a day, or 480 lb over a month in 9.6 bags. The metric match is 7.3 kg a day toward 218 kg.

Stages set the rate. Piglets near 1.5 lb of starter, growers near 4 lb, and finishers near 6 lb, each with clean water beside.

Feeders decide waste. Low lip troughs and timed fills cut the trampled share that bedding claims.

Dry storage closes the plan. Sealed bins hold a month for four growers, with moldy feed discarded, never stretched.

How to use

  1. Pick imperial (lb) or metric (kg).
  2. Enter pig count.
  3. Pick stage.
  4. Enter days: 30 suits monthly buys.
  5. Read daily first, then monthly.
  6. Read bags and keep feed dry.

Formula

Daily lb = pigs x rate. Monthly = daily x days. Bags = monthly / 50.
pigs
Head count.
stage
Piglets, growers, or adults.
days
Days to cover.

Rates are piglet 1.5, grower 4, finisher 6 lb daily. Metric converts at 0.453592 kg per lb with matching bag counts.

Worked example

Example: 4 growers, 30 days

Imperial defaults: 4 growers for 30 days. These are also the default values, so the page opens on this answer.

  1. Herd: 4 growers.
  2. Rate: 4 lb per grower per day.
  3. Daily: 4 x 4 = 16 lb.
  4. Month: 16 x 30 = 480 lb over 30 days.
  5. Bags: 480 / 50 = 9.6 bags.
  6. Tool shows 16 lb per day, 480 lb, 9.6 bags (50 lb).

Limits

  • Estimate only. Breed and temperature shift intake.
  • Waste needs feeder design.
  • Piglets need starter protein.
  • Illness needs vet care.

Common mistakes

  • One ration for all stages.
  • Wet feed molding in troughs.
  • No water beside the feeder.
  • Buying months that stale.
  • Stretching moldy feed.

Try it yourself

Quick checks. Answers sit tucked under each question.

2 adults, 30 days?

2 x 6 = 12 lb per day. Over 30 days that is 360 lb. Bags are 360 / 50 = 7.2 bags.

10 piglets, 14 days?

10 x 1.5 = 15 lb per day. Over 14 days that is 210 lb.

Questions

Feed for a month?

Multiply pigs by rate by days. Here 4 x 4 x 30 = 480 lb.

How much per pig?

Near 1.5 lb for piglets, 4 lb for growers, 6 lb for finishers daily.

How many bags?

Divide monthly by 50. Here 480 / 50 = 9.6 bags.

Starter or finisher?

Piglets need starter protein, growers balanced rations, finishers energy dense feed. Water beside every feeder.

Does pasture change it?

Yes. Pasture and scraps trim the bill but never replace balanced rations.

Does this treat illness?

No. Coughs and scour need vet care.
