GRE Score Total Calculator
GRE total from Verbal and Quant with Writing separate.
What it does
GRE prep gets clearer once section scores turn into a total. Two numbers between 130 and 170 decide the headline, while writing rides alongside on its own scale. Adding them right keeps practice tests comparable.
The tool above sums the two scored sections. Verbal 155 with Quant 160 makes 315 of 340, with Writing 4 of 6.0 beside it and a 157.5 section average. Same inputs always give the same total.
Ranges bound every report: 130 floors and 170 ceilings each section, so totals span 260 to 340. Writing spans 0 to 6 in half points and never merges into the headline number.
Programs read splits, not just totals. A 165 Verbal with 150 Quant serves different departments than the reverse 150 with 165, even at equal 315 totals. Check program medians for each section before celebrating.

Formula
- V
- Verbal Reasoning 130 to 170.
- Q
- Quantitative Reasoning 130 to 170.
- AW
- Analytical Writing 0 to 6.0.
ETS reports Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning at 130 to 170 in one point increments, with Analytical Writing at 0 to 6 in half points. The total is the straight sum of the two scored sections from 260 to 340. Writing never joins the total and blank sections report No Score.

Questions
How is the total found?
Add the two 130 to 170 sections. Here 155 + 160 = 315 of 340.
Section ranges?
130 to 170 in one point steps for each, so totals run 260 to 340.
Writing range?
0 to 6 in half point steps, never added to the total.
Skipped section?
A blank section reports No Score instead of a number.
Does it score raw answers?
No. Raw counts convert to 130 to 170 scales first; this tool adds reported scores.
Is 315 always equal?
Schools weigh splits and writing differently, so equal totals can read differently.
