What it does

Ebike range decides charge nights. Battery watt hours set the tank, assist level sets the thirst, and the commute sets the week.

The tool above divides pack by draw. Five hundred watt hours on tour at 20 per mile run 25 mi, so a 10 mi each way week needs 4 charges. The metric match is 40 km with the same 4 charges.

Assist is the lever. Eco near 15 stretches calm flats, tour near 20 suits mixed routes, and boost near 30 spends fast on hills and wind.

Commutes scale the week. Five days at twenty miles a day is a hundred miles, or four full tour charges, while short weeks and office days cut that fast.

Cold and hills take their cut. Winter air can trim a fifth of range, and climbs drink where flats sip, so keep a charge of margin.

How to use

  1. Pick imperial (mi) or metric (km).
  2. Enter battery Wh: 500 suits many commuters.
  3. Pick assist: tour suits mixed routes.
  4. Enter one way commute.
  5. Read range first.
  6. Read weekly charges.

Formula

Range mi = battery Wh / assist Wh per mile. Charges = 5 x commute x 2 / range.
battery
Pack energy.
assist
Eco, tour, or boost help.
commute
One way work trip.

Assist draws are eco 15, tour 20, boost 30 Wh per mile. Metric converts range at 1.60934 km per mile.

Worked example

Example: 500 Wh tour, 10 mi commute

Imperial defaults: 500 Wh, tour assist, 10 mi commute. These are also the default values, so the page opens on this answer.

  1. Battery: 500 Wh.
  2. Assist: tour at 20 Wh per mile.
  3. Range: 500 / 20 = 25 mi.
  4. Commute: 10 mi each way, 5 days.
  5. Week miles: 5 x 10 x 2 = 100 mi.
  6. Charges: 100 / 25 = 4 per week. Tool shows 25 mi, 4 charges per week, Tour: steady help.

Limits

  • Estimate only. Hills and wind shift range.
  • Battery age cuts capacity.
  • Cold trims winter range.
  • Tires and weight matter too.

Common mistakes

  • Planning brochure max range daily.
  • Boost all week with no charge plan.
  • Storing packs full in heat.
  • Ignoring winter margin.
  • Running to empty regularly.

Try it yourself

Quick checks. Answers sit tucked under each question.

500 Wh eco, 10 mi commute?

500 / 15 = 33 mi after rounding (33.3). Week is 5 x 10 x 2 = 100 mi. Charges are 100 / 33.3 = 3 per week.

625 Wh boost, 8 km commute metric?

Miles are 625 / 30 = 20.8. Km are 20.8 x 1.60934 = 33.5, shown as 34 km. Charges are 5 x 8 x 2 / 33.5 = 2.4 per week.

Questions

Range on tour assist?

Divide battery by assist draw. Here 500 / 20 = 25 mi.

Assist draws?

Eco 15, tour 20, boost 30 Wh per mile. Wind and hills move real rides off the line.

Charges per week?

Divide week miles by range. Here 5 x 10 x 2 / 25 = 4 charges.

Charge to full daily?

Charge to maker guidance, often 80 to 90 % daily and full before long rides. Heat ages packs.

Does cold matter?

Yes. Cold cuts range sharply, so winter needs margin.

Does this maintain the bike?

No. Locks, lights, and service need their own plans.
