What it does

Ducks eat steadily and lay heavily. A small layer flock can clear fifteen pounds a week, so bin size and buy timing matter.

The tool above multiplies birds by rate by days. Six layers at 0.35 lb each need 2.1 lb a day, or 14.7 lb over a week and 63 lb a month. The metric match is 960 g a day toward 6.7 kg.

Rates follow age. Layers near 0.35 lb with calcium for shells, ducklings near 0.2 lb of starter with niacin for legs. Forage in green months trims the feeder bill.

Water sits beside every bite. Ducks wash feed down with drinker water, so dirty or frozen drinkers cut intake faster than feeder size.

Bins close the plan. A 50 lb can holds about three weeks for six layers, with a scoop and a dry lid keeping rations fresh.

How to use

  1. Pick imperial (lb) or metric (g, kg).
  2. Enter duck count: 6 suits a backyard flock.
  3. Pick layers or ducklings.
  4. Enter days: 7 suits a weekly buy.
  5. Read daily first, then trip total.
  6. Read monthly and size the bin.

Formula

Daily = ducks x rate. Total = daily x days. Monthly = daily x 30.

type

days
Days to cover.

Rates are 0.35 lb or 160 g per layer daily and 0.2 lb or 90 g per duckling. Metric totals show kilos at 1000 g each.

Worked example

Example: 6 layers, 7 days

Imperial defaults: 6 layers for 7 days. These are also the default values, so the page opens on this answer.

  1. Flock: 6 layers.
  2. Rate: 0.35 lb per layer per day.
  3. Daily: 6 x 0.35 = 2.1 lb.
  4. Trip: 2.1 x 7 = 14.7 lb over 7 days.
  5. Month: 2.1 x 30 = 63 lb.
  6. Tool shows 2.1 lb per day, 14.7 lb, 63 lb per month.

Limits

  • Estimate only. Forage shifts intake.
  • Breed size moves rates both ways.
  • Waste and spills need feeder design.
  • Health and laying slumps need review.

Common mistakes

  • Feeding chick starter with no niacin plan.
  • No calcium for layers, then thin shells.
  • Dirty drinkers beside full feeders.
  • Buying months of feed that stales.
  • Sizing bins to one week with no buffer.

Quick checks. Answers sit tucked under each question.

10 layers, 7 days?

10 x 0.35 = 3.5 lb per day. Over 7 days that is 24.5 lb. Monthly is 3.5 x 30 = 105 lb.

12 ducklings metric, 14 days?

12 x 90 = 1080 g per day. Over 14 days that is 15120 g, or 15.1 kg.

Questions

Feed for a week?

Multiply ducks by daily rate by days. Here 6 x 0.35 x 7 = 14.7 lb.

How much per duck?

Near 0.35 lb (160 g) per layer daily, 0.2 lb (90 g) per duckling. Forage cuts the bill in green months.

Layer or starter feed?

Layers need layer ration with calcium for shells. Ducklings need starter with correct niacin, not chick starter alone.

Grit and water?

Add grit and clean water beside feed. Ducks wash every bite, so drinkers matter as much as feeders.

Does forage change it?

Yes. Pasture, slugs, and scraps shift real intake week to week.

Does this treat illness?

No. Sick birds and thin eggs need vet and ration review.
