What it does

Bouts bill rounds plus rests. Twelve three minute rounds hold thirty six boxing minutes, but eleven one minute rests stretch the show to forty seven minutes before announcements. Planning needs all three clocks.

The tool above takes rounds, round minutes, and rest minutes and returns total show, fight time, and rest time. The defaults 12, 3, and 1 match the worked example, so the page opens showing 47:00.

Fight time is rounds times round minutes. Rest counts rounds minus one gaps, since no rest follows the final bell. Total adds the two. Amateur two minute rounds with one minute rests scale the same way.

Use this for cards, broadcasts, and conditioning blocks. Walkouts, checks, and decisions sit outside. Title and non title distances change rounds, so confirm the scheduled distance first.

This page shows the formula, one full hand checked example at 12x3 with 1 min rests, a reference table, and practice checks that run through the tool.

How to use

  1. Type scheduled rounds, 1 to 30.
  2. Type minutes per round.
  3. Type rest minutes between rounds.
  4. Read Total show as mm:ss or h:mm:ss.
  5. Read Boxing time for work minutes.
  6. Read Rest time for corner minutes.

Formula

Fight = rounds x round_min. Rest = (rounds minus 1) x rest_min. Total = fight + rest.
rounds
Scheduled rounds, whole number.
round_min
Boxing minutes per round.
rest_min
Corner minutes between rounds.

No rest after the last round. Early stoppages cut the booked total short.

Worked example

Example: 12 rounds x 3 min, 1 min rests

Championship distance with standard rests. Find show length.

  1. Fight: 12 x 3 = 36 min.
  2. Gaps: 12 minus 1 = 11 rests.
  3. Rest: 11 x 1 = 11 min.
  4. Total: 36 + 11 = 47 min.
  5. Format: 47:00 total, 36:00 fight, 11:00 rest.
  6. Check: 47 minus 11 = 36 fight.

5 x 3, 1 rest15:0019:00

Limits

  • Booked time only. Stoppages shorten it.
  • No walkouts, checks, or decisions here.
  • Even rounds assumed. Mixed lengths need splits.
  • Conditioning use only, not sanction rules.

Common mistakes

  • Counting a rest after the last round.
  • Mixing seconds with decimal minutes.
  • Using championship 12 for a 10 round card.
  • Forgetting rests when booking broadcast windows.
  • Reading 47:00 as 47 seconds.
