Baby Formula Calculator
Daily ounces and per feed amounts from weight and age band.
What it does
Formula amounts scale with weight at roughly 2.5 ounces a day per pound, capped near 32 ounces, then split across the age band feeding count. Newborns eat little and often while older infants take bigger, rarer bottles.
The tool above takes the baby weight with an age band. It returns the daily total with per feed ounces and the feeding schedule beside them.
The default 10 lb baby at 1 to 3 months takes 25 oz a day across 6 to 8 feeds of about 3.6 oz. The metric mirror of 4.54 kg reads 740 ml a day in the same schedule.
Amounts follow American Academy of Pediatrics feeding guidance with CDC infant nutrition references behind them. Both cap daily intake near 32 ounces and put hunger cues above every number here.
How to use
- Pick pounds or kilos for the weight.
- Enter the current weight.
- Pick the age band in months.
- Read the daily total first as the budget.
- Split it across the schedule, then follow hunger cues.
Formula
- 2.5
- Daily ounces per pound of body weight.
- 32
- Daily cap ounces before doctor review.
- midpoint
- Middle of the band feed count for bottle size.
Kilos convert to pounds first (x 2.20462), then run AAP ounce math with ml shown beside it. Spit up, illness, and growth spurts move real days around the plan.
Worked example
Example: 10 lb at 1 to 3 months

- Daily: 2.5 x 10 = 25 oz (under the 32 cap).
- Schedule: 6 to 8 feeds, midpoint 7.
- Bottle: 25 / 7 = 3.6 oz.
- Metric check: 25 oz is 739 ml.
- Tool shows 25 oz / day, 3.6 oz, 6 to 8 feeds.

Limits
- Guidance estimates, not prescriptions for any baby.
- Cap near 32 oz daily without doctor direction.
- Premature babies follow adjusted age and orders.
- Solids after 6 months shift formula share down.
Common mistakes
- Propping bottles instead of holding feeds.
- Stretching powder thinner or thicker than labeled.
- Forcing every bottle empty against fullness cues.
- Microwaving bottles into hot spots.
- Keeping mixed formula past the safe window.
