What it does

Heart guidance counts two currencies that trade at a fixed rate. Adults need 150 moderate minutes or 75 vigorous minutes weekly, and each vigorous minute spends as two moderate ones. The tool above converts any mix into one total with the strength rule beside it.

The default week holds 90 moderate with 30 vigorous minutes plus 2 strength days. Doubling the vigorous share gives 60, plus 90 is exactly 150, so the goal reads met with strength satisfied. Drop the vigorous half hour and the same week falls 60 short.

Two authorities state the same bar. The Heart Association publishes 150 moderate or 75 vigorous with strength twice weekly, and the medical association prevention sheet repeats the identical trio. Both add that 300 minutes earns still more, and any movement beats none.

Minutes measure quantity while intensity and strength complete the picture. Brisk walking that still allows talk counts moderate; breathless running counts vigorous. Add two resistance days for muscles and bones, then build time gradually rather than leaping.

How to use

  1. Type moderate minutes for the week.
  2. Type vigorous minutes for the week.
  3. Type strength training days.
  4. Read the converted total first.
  5. Read the goal and strength lines beside it.

Formula

Equivalent = moderate + 2 x vigorous. Goal at 150. Strength at 2 days.
moderate
Minutes like brisk walking weekly.
vigorous
Minutes like running weekly, doubled.
strength
Resistance days weekly.

Combination rule from heart guidance: 150 moderate equals 75 vigorous. Kids use daily targets outside this page.

Worked example

Example: 90 moderate, 30 vigorous

Defaults: 90 moderate, 30 vigorous, 2 strength days.

  1. Double vigorous: 30 x 2 = 60.
  2. Total: 90 + 60 = 150 min equiv.
  3. Goal: 150 meets 150, so Goal met.
  4. Strength: 2 days meets the 2x rule.
  5. Tool shows 150 min equiv, Goal met, Meets 2x rule.
